2012 International Plowing Match and Rural Expo…one stitch at a time!

Roseville – Quilting is part of Waterloo Region’s heritage.

Members of the Lifestyle – Quilt Committee are busy piecing and quilting the blocks they received from their Quilt Block Challenge.  Various sizes of fabric were packaged and sold, with the instructions “use the enclosed fabric and create a 12 x12 inch block”.   “Quilting is part of Waterloo Region’s heritage and we are known as “the Quilt Capital of Ontario. Many of the blocks we received, were an absolute work of art,” said Quilt Committee Co-Chair Diane Burkhart. Over 100 entries were received and all will be used to create three separate and unique quilts.

Another of the committee’s projects is the Quilt Competition.  “This is a great opportunity to showcase your quilting skills to a large and enthusiastic audience.  There are 21 categories that will offer something for every taste and technique,” said Jean Rickert, Co-Chair.  Over 200 entries are expected, they will be judged, and prizes awarded.  Entries from the Quilt competition, as well as, the three quilts from the Quilt Block Challenge will be displayed during the Quilt and Garden Show, at the New Dundee Community Centre August 10-11 and during the week of the Plowing Match September 18 – 22, in Roseville.
